Argentina is famous for its breath-taking landscapes, sensual tango shows, sumptuous steak, and Gaucho traditions. For anyone who chooses to visit this vast and varied country, there is much to see and do.
There is surely nowhere better to start your trip to Argentina than the cosmopolitan city of Buenos Aires. To fully appreciate the area’s rich history, take a walking tour of the main square, Plaza de Mayo, in the heart of the city.
In this centre of political life, you discover a wealth of statues carved in honour of heroes from the country’s long history. The grand La Casa Rosada (‘The Pink House’) is a former home to presidents. It was from the balcony here that Eva Peron famously addressed her followers, while the imposing cathedral, which overlooks the square, is one of many wonderful remnants of the colonial area.

Explore the pastel-coloured houses in La Boca, as you walk along the cobbled streets that buzz with music, bohemian artists, and world-class Tango dancers. Take a tour of the city’s famous football stadium, La Bombonera, the home of Boca Juniors, or go to watch a match and absorb the passion the locals have for their team.

In San Telmo, Buenos Aires’ oldest barrio (neighbourhood), you discover a host of tango parlours, charming little cafes and antique shops in amongst the cobbled streets and colonial buildings. San Telmo Market takes place every Sunday and is home to stalls selling wonderful arts and crafts. As you wander through, watch street musicians and tango dancers perform for the crowd.

In the elegant Recoleta neighbourhood, you find a world-class shopping, luxury hotels and beautiful art galleries. Visit La Recoletta cemetery to see the grave of Eva Peron, the revered First Lady of Argentina from 1946 to 1952. With its vaults and tombs built in a rich variety of styles, the cemetery is also beautiful. The Argentine government declared it a National Historical Monument in 2011.

Buenos Aires is famous for its parrillas (steakhouses), and some consider Argentine steak to be the best in the world. When you find a parrilla, sit back, relax and enjoy your steak with a delicious glass of Argentine red wine.

No trip here is complete without going to see a tango show, of which there are many different types on offer. Whether you wish to enjoy VIP service as you watch the dancers, or you’d like to take lessons from world-class performers – the choice is yours.

Patagonia is a rugged area, blessed with dramatic landscapes, that offers breath-taking views. With its icy winds and snowy peaks, it’s a world away from the warmer climes and cosmopolitan air of Buenos Aires.
With its endless towering glaciers and rugged forest, Los Glaciers National Park is a World Heritage Site and a must-see on any trip to Argentina. Trek to remote mountain lakes, and take a boat ride to see the icebergs.

Gaze at the mighty Perito Moreno Glacier, which stands at 60m high, 5km wide, and 30km long and is one of the only glaciers that is still growing at almost 2m per day! The view of ice blocks collapsing into the water around it is a truly a sight to behold. If you’re seeking greater thrills, climb the slopes and trek along the surface of the snow and ice for an experience you’ll never forget.

Sitting beside the crystal-clear blue waters of Nahuel Huapi Lake in the foothills of the Andes, Bariloche is rich in mountain tops, several of which reach over 2,000m. Many compare the area’s beautiful scenery to that of the Swiss Alps.
Come to Bariloche and the Lake District to enjoy a host of outdoor activities. Just want to relax? Consider trout, salmon and fly fishing, take a walk or relaxing boat ride across the lake.

Looking for a little more adventure? Try kayaking, hiking, horse riding, cycling, white-water rafting, or skiing (in the winter). During the colder months, Bariloche transforms into a winter paradise that attracts snowboarders and skiers from miles around.

As well as its great restaurants and cafes, Bariloche is famous for its chocolate shops. Choose from chocolate in all kinds of wonderful shapes and sizes.

The nearby mountain villages of San Martin de los Andes and Villa la Angostura are surrounded by gorgeous lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and mountains. This makes them popular destinations for trekking, mountaineering and a host of other outdoor activities.

A World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature, Iguazu Falls are the largest group of waterfalls in the world. They come together to create one of the most awe-inspiring attractions you will ever lay eyes upon.
The Falls sit on the border between Argentina and Brazil, span over almost 3km and reach a height of 60m. Some visitors claim the best 360-degree views are on the Brazilian side. Despite this, the wealth of walkways on the Argentine side allows you to explore the Falls up close from a number of different vantage points. For the full experience, witness both sides of Iguassu Falls from both sides.

The Falls are made up of 275 separate waterfalls, of which the ‘Devil’s Throat’ is perhaps the most magnificent. Here, water cascades down to form a U-shape, while the sound of the water thundering down is truly breath-taking. The Falls are surrounded by lush rainforest with a huge variety of flora, fauna and wildlife.

Take a boat ride under the Falls to see their splendour up close and for an exciting and memorable end to your day.

Mendoza with it’s year round sunny and mild climate is one of the best and most famous wine regions in the world. For this reason, wine tasting is a must. Come here to sample the best wines, and marvel at the wide, open vineyards and blue skies. As well as making some of the most sought after wine in the world, Mendoza also offers superb food, and many outdoor adventures…
Ride on horseback, hike, or ride a mountain bike across the Andes Mountain Range, raft along the white-water rapids of the Mendoza River, or climb up the enormous Aconcagua Mountain, which at 6,961m, is the highest peak in South America. At the end of a busy day, relax those tired muscles and feel the tension drift away in a mud bath or thermal pool.
Argentina has so much to offer that it would be hard to list it all here. But as someone who knows about this stunning country, I’m here to ensure that your next holiday is one you remember forever. For help planning your perfect trip, please call Nelkin Bespoke Travel on
